Gather, relax and enjoy time together at The Camp*

The Camp, formerly The Lake Hawea Holiday Park, is your quintessential Kiwi camping experience. The Camp is beautifully basic and authentic which is why it has been a popular destination for campers, tourists and adventurers since 1971.

Close to the resort towns of Wanaka and Queenstown, The Camp has a wide range of accommodation options, good facilities and plenty of activities to suit couples, families or groups.  

The Camp Food Truck is currently open every day for pick-up takeaways or dine-in food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Open 9am-8pm. Breakfast bagels until 12 noon. Lunch and dinner menu noon until 8pm. Barista coffee and homemade treats available all day.

Traditional kiwi camping fare including delicious barista coffee from Good Joe Coffee Company, breakfast bagels and treats, great burgers, fish & chips and tacos.

At Level 1 we are open for accommodation bookings for winter under government guidelines and operate to the highest levels of cleanliness and hygeine.

Our tent sites are the real deal as you get to choose where you would like to go. So you can choose to be near the lake, in the woodland area, under the shade or out in the sun.  Once you had set up you will be able to explore or just hang at your site.

Choose a stunning lake vista or a more private setting a couple of rows back. We have powered sites for vans, campervans and caravans to pull up, plug in and relax.

Lake Hawea Accommodation

Lakeside Cabin

Perched on the edge Lake Hawea, the Lakeside cabin, now known for being a honeymooner’s paradise, was once the Directors Office on the movie Vertical Limit.  Modestly appointed but with the best views in the park, it is a stay not to be missed.

Waitoa with 4 bedrooms and 181 Straw Bale House with 2 bedrooms are off-site from The Camp and Cross Hill Lodge, 3 bedrooms holiday home is located at the top hill of The Camp.

Xmas/New Year/Summer Bookings

The busiest period at The Camp is the New Zealand Christmas/New Year and School Holidays.  At this time of year we have a different booking procedure.

We ask that if you are looking to come stay with us during this time that you please contact us and book direct at or on +64 (0)3 443 1767

We have a 5 nights minimum stay in place during our peak summer period so please consider this when booking. We can try to accommodate shorter stays if we have cancellations or gaps so it is worth enquiring either way.

During this period The Camp is separated into two main areas of campers:

1. The Family Area

2. The Hawea Beach Club (HBC) –  18-30 year olds & concert goers

We encourage all to book well in advance so that they are not disappointed.
